fingerlakes series

I painted this series for last weekend's Canandaigua show. I had a heck of a time getting them to dry in time...I paint thick and normally the drying process takes a while. Putting them out in direct sun helps a lot...unfortunately it rained almost every day the preceding week. I kept dashing outside with them when there was a bit of sun only to frantically rush out again when the rains came. They made it unscathed to the show!

first outdoor show of the season

Phew. Just got back from a weekend show in Canandaigua, NY. It was my first show of the season...and holy cow, what a lot of work! A lot of schlepping and hauling and setting up, but it was good practice and in the most beautiful setting for a show around. My tent was literally right on the lake. My kids had a blast playing on the rocks, I think they named every one. I did notice that I was the only vendor to have two little charges in tow. Hmmmmm, am I crazy to be doing this? All the same, I am looking forward to my upcoming shows: my "local" show, the Elmwood Festival of the Arts in Buffalo, the Clothesline Festival in Rochester and of course, my family show Art Under the Birches in Rangeley, Maine. Stop by and see me if you're in the area!
Here are a few pix from this weekend.

See? I wasn't kidding I really was right on the lake. Just beautiful.

My tent...first time setting it up. It held up fine with Saturday's wind and rain.

My poppies looked great against the dark panels.

poppies on blue VI

I'm back painting on my porch this week. It is too beautiful outside to work in my studio. I did a little trio of poppies. I'll post the others tomorrow.

new series

I'm working on a new series of landscapes for my next show. Art Under the Birches in Rangeley, Maine on August 8th and 9th. I'm doing small landscapes of Maine scenes. Rangeley is in the western mountains of Maine and is one of the most beautiful places around. Here's the first:

backyard painting

My folks are here for a visit this week. My mom is a watercolor artist but wanted to give oils a try so we set up a still life in my backyard and had a go. I picked some zinnias, delphinium and primroses from my garden for a bouquet...the perfect mix of bright summer colors.
